The food industry has been majorly impacted by the events of the global coronavirus outbreak. Because of safety issues surrounding dining in restaurants and ordering face-to-face, many restaurants have been forced to close their doors or become delivery-only.
But bakery Butter& found a creative solution to drum up sales by offering "Quarantine Cakes," as first reported by PEOPLE. The cakes are made to serve one or two people and are perfect for celebrating milestones in small groups, or simply sending someone a bit of love during a time of social distancing.
Best of all, the cakes look totally delicious and come in flavors like salted caramel and chocolate and matcha with strawberry. They also feature your choice of important reminders like "wash your hands" and "don't touch your face."
The California shop typically caters to events like weddings, but with more people choosing to limit or cancel their celebrations, the bakery saw this as a solution.
"People can send them to each other, even if they can’t eat them together. In times of social isolation and fear, it’s human connection, acts of love, and comfort food that will get us through it," they wrote on Instagram.
So far, the cakes have been getting quite a bit of attention online and as a result, the shop had its busiest day ever this week. Butter& even encouraged bakeries in other areas to try the idea out for themselves.
